a San Diego giveaway

This gift is for the high school and college graduating seniors out there and their parents :) In light of the school year coming to a close and Mother's Day quickly approaching, I thought I'd give away three senior portrait sessions to those in or able to come to the UTC San Diego/La Jolla area. This package will include a high-resolution CD of all images, 20 of which will be of your choosing to post-process, and up to 1.5 hours of shooting time. Yay! So to win, here are some things you can do:

1. Tell me one of your favorite things about your mom.

2. Tell me something really special about your time in high school/college.

3. Become a follower through google and tell me so with another comment.

4. Blog, tweet, or facebook about this giveaway and leave separate links here.

So, you can leave up to 6 separate comments! That's 6 chances to win a portrait session to bless your parents and savor some good times :) Be sure to enter your full name in the comments and to note that this giveaway will end Friday, May 6th at midnight PST. The winners will be chosen at random and announced sometime Monday :)

Alrighty folks, good luck and make it a greatttt day!

Update:

These stories are so awesome. Seriously, so glad to hear such good things. Wanted to chime in really quickly though and let the rest of you know that the comments can, but definitely don't have to be really in depth or profound. Really would hate for you to be pressured to write something like a personal statement. I think we're pretty much over those, right? Haha. Anyway, the contest is not based on content whatsoever. Be free. Be real :) I'd be happy with just you saying that you love your mom's smile and then ending it :)

1. My mom is the wisest woman I know. As I've grown older and moved past the immaturity of being a teenager, I have come to realize how wise and honest my mom has been with me. She knows my fears and desires before I even consciously know them, and she has guided me in my faith and life in more ways than she can realize. Always able to help me with any question, despite her doubts on the subject, my mother is able to shed light on things I never considered with an insight only a mother could have.

2. I used to think that going to Officer Candidate School for the Marines was the most formative experience of my life, but I have to admit that Camp Kesem and my time as a Counselor last year for children whose parents have/had/passed away from cancer has changed my life in ways I cannot even explain. They have become my younger brothers and sisters, and sharing in their struggles and joys have been the most powerful times of my life. Being so young and having to face what they have to face each and every day, the least I can do is provide them with a free, week-long camp in order for them to regain their confidence, smile, and realize their full potential.

My favorite thing about my mom is the fact that she is a great Korean tiger mom. All throughout my childhood she was the strictest parent I knew... But all of that paid off. My sister and I are both attending universities and have grown into well adjusted adults :) Her aspirations for me are to attend law school and become a successful lawyer, but secretly, I've always wanted to do that anyways so I can make lots of money and buy her nice things. My mom is absolutely, unquestionably, the love of my life <3

My mom since I was a baby always prayed for me before I went to school. Every single day without fail. Whether in the car or when I left home and she was just seeing me off. I took them so lightly and kinda was ashamed of them, but I'm attributing them now to a way God put a covering over my life. I'm forever indebted in that area for her :)

I think something I got very uniquely through IV was being able to work, befriend, and learn to bridge different cultures/races. Coming from a very homogeneous lifestyle before college, this is a very big but necessary transition. Some of my closest friends are not my own race, and I'm seeing more clearly what it looks like to create deep relationships with those who are not as similar to you. I love all the opportunities i took to go beyond myself and to experience different asian cultures, black culture, etc :)

1. Shoot. There are so many things I love about my mommy. One of the things that sticks out the most is how sacrificial she is. She came to the USA so that I could have a better lifestyle than she had. She had to live 21 years without permanent residency, always afraid of getting caught (which meant returning to Mexico), without seeing her family. As of February she became a permanent resident (praise God)which means she can join me at my graduation in SD without fear :)...She is my best friend, who I have faithfully called twice a day ever since I came to UCSD, she is a woman who is an example of what it looks like to LOVE God unconditionally. I love her :)

2. (The above response is also mine..hehe)
College for me represents my re-commitment to loving Jesus. When I first came to UCSD my idea wasn't to join a christian fellowship/church. However God had other plans for me...long story short(if you want to hear it more in detail lets grab coffee), Warren DT leaders got my information, sought me out and persistently called me and invited me out. I refused but eventually, I came and it has been the best four years of my life. From finding a loving community, friends from different ethnicities, to being equipped to reach out to others via leadership, my life has changed for the better. I'm going to leave college a person more in love with God than when I first came in.

1. My mom is wonderwoman in disguise. She is studying to get her PhD, teaches at a local university, is a strong leader of her church, counsels women and teenagers, manages to cook, clean, and maintain order in the house, and can even crack apples in half with her bare hands. And, on top of so much, she's there for me no matter what. Always. Even at three in the morning to talk to me simply because I'm bored.

Okay, I give in. I'll admit my mom is human, which makes her ability to do so much even more incredible. She consistently tries her best to be the best person she can be. My mom inspires me to do the same :)

2. I moved to San Diego. Although it was one of the scariest things I have ever done, God TRULY provided. Despite the fact that nothing went remotely close to how I'd wanted, I've met the most amazing people, have had the opportunities to be a leader in my communities both at school and at church, and have gained a greater understanding about the importance of having a servant's heart. I've been blessed in ways I had never imagined possible. It just goes to show that God has so many greater plans for us than we would have ever thought. God is so good!

Well... I can say that my mother works so hard for me. She wakes up at 7 and comes back home around 7 as well. So although I don't see her as much as I would like, I know that her love for me is ever so strong! And for mother's day, I bought her a super large mother's day card! :D

I wouldn't say it's a high school experience, but something that happened in my high school years. I attended an Asian leadership conference in Sacramento and although it may sound "cliche" it was definitely a life-defining event. I had gone to many high-school conferences previously, and enjoyed them thoroughly, but none had such a profound effect as this one had on me. The first time I went there, I did not know what to expect. But as time passed and I met so many amazing people from all sorts of backgrounds (even though we were all at least part Asian haha) I really led down my guard and allowed myself to have a really great time. I guess it's tough to explain in words but it emotionally, physically, and mentally changed me in so many ways.

1. Tell me one of your favorite things about your mom.

Well, I love how she is open-minded and very mellow. I can tell her about my life without fear that she will use it against me. It's nice. She respects my decisions. I just really appreciate how my mom is always understanding.

2. Tell me something really special about your time in high school/college.

Well, in high school was the first time I ever had a best friend. Before that, I never really had a best friend or a close friend. So I was really happy to just meet her and be able to spend my time with her.
